It has been almost half a decade since I was in a class with fellow learners of English . My learning English language has been almost stopped during my stay in Singapore apart from reading English fictions for my leisure and once in a while I might do listening in solitude when I feel like it . Here I am one of the Learners of English and we inaugurated our Singapore Symposium named in the honor of Our beloved Saya Gyi U Wynn Naing last Saturday , 20 March 2010 . Thanks to Ah Kyi ma and Ag Ngae Ma for proposing such a good idea and of course My appreciations must go to Ma Saint who made it happened and the last not the least to all members of Singapore Symposium for their presence .
Our first class kick off by setting ground rules , followed by sharing words and Quotes . I was surprised hearing words like mezzanine , swastika , susurration , sleaze and presumptuous. Frankly I am not so good at remembering either quotes or proverb , however as we are in a group , I believe it would make me easier to memorize and recall it later when I am in need of using them . Surprisingly , the way people pick up a new word is rather different . I for one , usually notice some words through reading , but always fail or lazy to look up the dictionary and I would prefer guessing the meaning . Only after I come across many times , then I will find out the exact meaning . No wonder , my vocabulary is very limited.
Netrimony : On line dating in India has been fun listening yet , give you a small wonder how people can click with their soulmate on line and happily ever after . But then it is so much daunting to put your profile on internet which let people find out who you are and let alone forgetting about you are selected due to your qualification rather than love or romantic introduction . After all , it is the world we live in , failing to think about our own heart and looking for more conveniences .
Needless to say , We were fined a few times as we were addicted to using Singlish like lor , can and Jarlat as these words become part of our every day usage and we should deter using them if we really love to speak good spoken English .
Reflecting our learning journey of that day ,overall our Skills have been covered in ashes though we have quite a good starting and I strongly believe that classes will make us polish and enhance our command of English in four skills as well as strengthen our friendship and accumulated fined money . The last , I shouldn’t forget to say thanks for tantalizing Myanmar Dinner , should I ?
